FURNITURES ARE DESIGNED BY STUDENTS OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Students of Izmir Economics will share their creativity with Izmir public. Students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, will be displaying the custom designed furniture at Agora Shopping Mall on April 11 – 25.
Students, who displayed their designs at Cologne International Furniture Fair (IMM Cologne 2014) in January, and then at Modeko Izmir Furniture Fair, will be promoting their 17 pieces of furniture to Izmir public. The project team of Lecturers Ertan Demirkan, Cengiz Ultav, Zeynep Edes, Neptün Öziş, and Research Assistants Seren Borvalı and Özgür Deniz Çetin of Furniture Design Course, chose “KEYWORDS F.U.N” as a theme this year for students. The students designed couches where children can both have fun and play at the same time and adults can lie down to read a book.
‘The goal of each design…’
Course Project Coordinator Ertan Demirkan stated that the students came up with their own concepts throughout the course and created designs based on needs. Demirkan pointed out that each design had a specific target group, and he said, “3rd grade students of Department of Industrial Design and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design worked together. They especially focused on function, user nature, and benefits themes. They focused on the aspects of furniture that eases life, and came up with their designs. The designs were greatly admired at Cologne and Modeko fairs.”
