TURKISH TEXTILE WILL BE PROMOTED IN ENGLAND
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design will promote the production processes of Turkish textile in England. Lecturers and students of De Monfort University (England) Department of Fashion and Textile Design and IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design created a joint project for “FEED – IN Educational Collaborations Competition” organized by British Council. As a result, the project was chosen. Students of Izmir Economics will share samples of Turkish textile from design to production in England. As part of the project, lecturers and students of De Monfort University (England) Department of Fashion and Textile Design will also come and visit textile companies operating in Izmir.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that departments of fashion and textile from 11 universities from Turkey, and 7 from England participated in the competition. She said, “British Council decided to support the fashion and textile departments through this competition. We decided to become partners with De Montfort University and prepare a joint project. As a result, we qualified to receive a grant of 5 thousand pounds. Turkish students will research Turkish textile and Turkish brands. They will create 9 sub collections matching these brands. They will analyse these brands. Likewise, English students will conduct studies regarding brands in their own countries.”
'77 Students from Both Countries'
Prof. Dr. Adanır stated that 27 students (3rd grade and 4th grade) from IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Fashion Business and 50 students from Montfort University would be involved in the project. She stated the following:
“Our students are conducting their studies. They will start the design process when the academic year begins. They will be uploading their designs on the website in November and the selected ones will participate in the workshop in De Montfort University. They will be making presentations about the research and studies they conducted in February. They will also visit the design offices of various companies in England. Similar visits will take place in Turkey. There is no textile production process in England. They only have design offices. Therefore, the English is very excited about this.”
