CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULTS LITERATURE DAY
Izmir University of Economics hosted the 1st Children's and Young Adults Literature Day organized by Aegean Contemporary Education Foundation (ECEV). Berrin Ertürk, CEO of ECEV, stated that they aimed to motivate children and youth to read and get interested in literature, and develop their skills to be able to choose the right books to read. She remarked that more than 300 teachers, authors and literature lovers attended the daylong event.
While IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen pointed out that children were future managers of the business world, Mine Soysal, Author, and Founder-Director of Günışığı Kitaplığı, talked about ‘Literature and Literary Publishing’. There was also an interactive presentation on “Making Children Admire Literature". İlgim Meral Akan, 5th Grade Student at Private Yücel Tonguç Middle School, narrated the opening speech of Author Muzaffer İzgü.
Also, the students of Cahide Ahmet Dalyanoğlu Middle School and TAKEV Schools talked about their own reading journeys at the event. The students, under the guidance of Author Bekir Yurdakul, expressed their opinion on how the adults should encourage them to read and admire literature. Prof. Dr. Sedat Sever, Lecturer, and Director of Children's and Young Adults Literature Research and Application Centre of Ankara University, delivered "Why Should Children and Young Adults Read?" titled presentation. Hidayet Karakuş, Hacer Kılcıoğlu, Hüseyin Yurttaş, Birsen Ferahlı, Eşref Karadağ, and Nursel Çetin read parts form their own stories as part of the organization.
