Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, who delivered a speech before the show, stated that they revised the project about Pasaport Dalgakıran, for which Izmir Chamber of Commerce was granted the tenancy until 2021. He said, "We wanted this place to become a center of attraction for Izmir, for Turkey. However, we were not granted approval due to reasons such as it would mess up the traffic, cause visual pollution, and structuring. We are in the process of changing the projects. Previously there were 600 berths; we are reducing it down to 200. We are also decreasing our construction right of 0.15 in half. We, as Izmir Chamber of Commerce, want to leave behind something to remember for Izmir.”
President Demirtaş reported that they wanted to make Pasaport Dalgakıran a center of attraction, and it was occupied by seagulls and crows for the past 50 years. "The jetty, which was built by Sultan Abdülaziz in 1876, has been used for a long time and protected the inland port. Izmir Chamber of Commerce wanted this place to become a center of attraction. We developed and presented a project for that. SİT (Protected Area) Board did not approve. We are revising the project. We will consist on making the jetty serve Izmir public by decreasing the intenseness,” said Demirtaş.
‘We are Very Proud’
President Demirtaş also said that they wanted to make Agora and Kadifekale become centers of attraction as well. He said, "Our most important accomplishment was to establish Izmir University of Economics in 2001. The University is only 14 years old. 5 out of 7 jury members who will be evaluating the fashion show tonight are graduates of IUE. 20 out of 40 models who will be displaying the outfits are IUE students. We are very proud of our university”.
