TOURISM GIANTS ARE AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Participants of "Tourİzmir Zirvesi (Summit)", organized by Izmir Chamber of Commerce and supported by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), attended the gala night prepared by the student chefs of IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management. 65 international tourism association employees, airline managers, tour operators, travel agents, and congress planners from 26 countries toured Izmir University of Economics during the day. Guests were treated samples of Turkish cuisine prepared by junior students of IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management under the guidance of Chef Trainer Merve Burcu Akbulut. Trainer Chef Asst. Prof. Dr. Pierre Raffard made a presentation on Turkish cuisine while Trainer Chef Işık Gülçubuk presented about Wine Production in Turkey at the event.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, who delivered a speech, stated that tourism was one of the sectors the Chamber placed significance on the most, and he said “Tourism contributes to world peace and friendship. Moreover, it is the beginning of trade. Izmir is hosting 65 important names in purchasing and decision making from 26 countries in the field of tourism. They came to Izmir University of Economics. The medium of instruction at the University is English. Department of Culinary Arts and Management train chefs who will serve gastronomy tourism. Our students presented the guests with samples of Turkish cuisine, which were appreciated greatly.”
‘Cuisine is the Best Way to Know a Culture’
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen emphasized that the best way to get to know a culture was getting to know the cuisine of that country, and he said that IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management successfully presented the modern presentation techniques of Turkish culture.
