IUE ATTENDS THE 12th TRAVEL TURKEY FAIR AND INTERNATIONAL GASTRONOMIC TOURISM CONGRESS
IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, and IUE Vocational School Tourism and Hotel Management Program opened a booth at the 12th Travel Turkey Izmir Tourism Fair and Congress. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kentmen Çin, Acting Rector of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), delivered an opening speech at the event that brought together more than one thousand 200 participants from 38 countries and 48 cities. Prof. Dr. Çin placed emphasis on the innovation and sustainability concepts as she mentioned the Gastronomic Tourism Congress held for the fourth time as part of the fair.
Prof. Dr. Çin stated that in addition to raising individuals equipped with theoretical and practical information required by the field of gastronomy, IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, which was established in 2007, also researched the gastronomy in the Aegean Region. “Urla International Artichoke Festival is an end result of the studies supported by the Prime Ministry in order to promote the Urla region artichoke. Thanks to this festival, artichoke production in Urla has increased by 70%, and allowed opening of new restaurants serving local dishes. IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management documented the cuisine cultures of the folks settled in Izmir during the Greek–Turkish population exchange, and compiled them into a book. The Department works together with the locals about the cuisine of Coastal Aegean Region, collects recipes, and records them for reference purposes. Through our pioneering and innovative studies, we hope to get a good grasp of, and manage the needs of gastronomy and tourism industries, and make a good impact,” said Prof. Dr. Çin. Asst.
Prof. Betül Öztürk, Acting Director of IUE School of Applied Management Sciences, to which the Department of Culinary Arts and Management is affiliated, said, “We are going to search for ways to develop the practices of gastronomy in tourism industry together with the academicians and chefs coming from Portugal, United Arab Emirates, Japan, and England. This congress, which is very important in terms of development of our students, will allow them to follow the worldwide new trends, and present themselves better when they graduate.”
IUE Vocational School is at the Fair
IUE Vocational School Tourism and Hotel Management Program also attended the 12th Travel Turkey Izmir Tourism Fair and Congress with its students.
