IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS LENT A HAND TO VAN
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) lent a hand to Van. Serhat Mirkan Acar and Tuğberk Boyacı, freshmen at IUE Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, experienced the joy of earthquake victims in Karaağaç Village in Van up close with the 71 boxes full of winter clothes, shoes, boots, comforters, toys, etc they took there.
Acar and Boyacı, who collected the items for two months at the stand they established on campus, took the boxes to Van with contributions of Balçova Municipality. The students, who personally travelled to Van, stated that they experienced the warmest welcome there.
‘They still need much’
Acar stated that after they arrived in Van, they were greeted by Van – Der President Murat Eryılmaz. He said, “We determined the village with the most needs. It happened to be Karaağaç Village, which was affected from the earthquake the most and needed many items. The expression on children’s faces when they saw the boxes was indescribable. They were very hospitable. We were appalled to see that they still needed many more. They still need help desperately.”
