IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS DOMINATE THE MARKETS WITH İŞ INVESTMENT
The Trade Master Economics Platform, which is established as part of the cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş (IS Investment), will guide the future investors. The Trade Master Economics Platform, of İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. (IS Investment), one of the leading establishments of Turkish capital markets, will get university students familiarized with investment tools, and enable them to monitor the economic data in domestic and foreign markets, and carry out virtual transactions. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Erdal Aral, Director-General of Is Investment, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Acting Rector of IUE, academicians, and students attended the opening ceremony of the platform. Demirtaş and Aral performed the first virtual transaction with students.
In his opening speech, President Ekrem Demirtaş said that the University reached its purpose of establishment with such platforms, and he stated the following:
“Our purpose in establishing Izmir University of Economics was the same. We did not want our students to feel like a fish out of water after they graduated. That’s why we established learning and application oriented university. Our students come back with great achievements from each contest they enter; they came back with the entrepreneurship flag of TUSIAD lately. There are so many other things that can be learned, experienced by entering contests. Make sure to take that first step. Our students will show their gratitude to IS Investment by using the platform frequently.”
‘Decision making under stress will strengthen’
Erdal Aral, Director-General of Is Investment, gave information about the platform, and he said that the students, students studying finance foremost, would be learning about how to carry out virtual transactions with actual data. Aral stated that they wanted the platform to build a bridge between the business world and the students, and he said, “We would like to strengthen the decision making process. We wanted them to make decisions under stress by letting them perform virtual transactions. These students, who will be receiving training as part the project, will be able to monitor Borsa Istanbul and Derivatives Exchange, and Chicago Exchange, and make transactions. They will be able to recognize the financial markets at this lab before they graduate, and learn about the dynamics of the markets.” Aral also stated that they would be organizing a contest among the universities they established the platform at.
Following the speeches, President Ekrem Demirtaş, Erdal Aral, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Prof. Dr. Hasan Fehmi Baklacı, Head of Department of International Trade and Finance, Lecturer Prof. Dr. Cengiz Erol, and students cut the ribbon for Trade Master Economics Platform.
