DESIGNS TURN INTO REALITY
Izmir Economics designers unite academic knowledge and real life. Theoretical knowledge, the students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design receive, turn into practice with the studies they conduct within IUE Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM), and become beneficial to entrepreneurs and the city.
EKOTAM, which develops custom design projects for natural and legal persons from various sectors, brings student – academician and dynamic business world together. The students, under the supervision of their academicians, present different designs to real employers and projects come to life. Asst. Prof. Dr. Markus Wilsing, Lecturer at IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and students Halil Doğan, Meriç Beri Günay, and Murat Gündar, turned the cafe project they designed into reality from its table and chairs to lights and paints. The students had their first on the job experience by displaying a different concept of a cafe in Balçova.
‘They get ready for real work life experience’
Asst. Prof. Dr. Markus Wilsing, who gave information about the project, stated that the students had a chance to experience real job as part of EKOTAM. Wilsing said students came out with a very colourful cafe, and he said, “The outcome of the project is a very elegant location. Students had a chance to see project, design, and application processes all together. We want to get our students ready for real life, and make them get experience by allowing them to work with real customers at the same time. This is a great opportunity to experience theoretical and practical knowledge. Our design turned out to be very colourful, just like the colures of life itself. It turned out to be a very natural and colourful design”.
