MATH IS DISCUSSED AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Mathematics hosted an international workshop titled, “Progress on Difference Equations (PODE)”. Almost 100 scientists from 27 countries including USA, Canada, Japan, Belarus, Czechoslovakia, Algeria, Finland, and Poland presented 40 original papers and 9 posters.
While bilateral discussions on joint work areas took place, the students of IUE Department of Mathematics held conversations with the scientists and made plans about future. Following the workshop, bilateral Erasmus Agreements came into decision. IUE Folk Dances Club performed and trips to various parts of the city took place as part of the event.
‘Math’ at Spring School
Prof. Dr. Ünal Ufuktepe, Head of IUE Department of Mathematics, pointed out that they did something different for the first time and he said, “We held a spring school for master and Ph.D. students on Discrete Dynamical Systems and their use in biological modelling. The students got ready for PODE 2014 in the program I coordinate with Prof. Dr. Saber Elaydi, Lecturer from Trinity University, USA. 25 young researchers from nearby universities and Saudi Arabia participated in the course. Participants were issued certificates.”
