SUPER HEROES BY STUDENTS
Secondary education students designed their own super heroes. The results for the “2nd Superheroes Saving the World Design Contest”, organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, have been announced. S. Dilara Vollack from Vali Vecdi Gönül Anadolu High School came in first place at the contest organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, IUE Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM) with the support of Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education where 66 contestants attended. Gamze Akbulak from Ali Osman Konakçı Girls’ Technical and Vocational High School, came in second place and Kadri Demircan Kaçel from Işılay Saygın Fine Arts High School came in third place. Students focused on environment friendly heroes who can prevent drought and radioactivity.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan, Director of EKOTAM, stated that the contest allowed students to take the first steps to the world of design with their points of view and creations. Özcan also pointed out the importance of using the power of design for students in order to make the world a better place to live in with their sense of responsibility.
The most environmentalist hero, A+
The champion of the contest, Dilara Vollack stated that she created an eco-friendly hero named A+, and she described her hero in following words:
“My hero is a total eco-friendly hero. It can make soil analysis by using the heel of its shoes, and plants the most appropriate seeds with the platform of its shoe. It is also capable of putting out forest fires by using its daisy wings. In addition to making pollination by disseminating pollens, it can also water the soil with high content mineral teardrops. I created a hero that helps plants to grow.”
Water Girl will put an end to drought
Gamze Akbulak, came in second place with her design called, “Water Girl” where she intended to prevent drought due to excessive use of water, and wars based on water. Akbulak said, “I created a hero who can prevent drought due to excessive use of water and fertile water lands turning into deserts, and violence and wars caused by the fact that not being able to share clean water supplies due to pollution, etc. My hero enables reuse of water by purification, and decreases water consumption through education and raising awareness.”
Watch out for Radioactivity!
Kadri Demircan Kaçel, came in third place with his design Radioactive-Crow, a hero who was exposed to radiation with his family. Kaçel, who indicated that the body of his hero was resistant against radiation, said, “The hero, who is kept under quarantine, improves himself to save all living creatures who lost their lives due to radioactive wastes. My hero turns into a weapon that can destroy the radioactive wastes, and get rid of these harmful wastes.”
