Award-Winning ‘Fashion Designers’
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, pointed out that fashion, ready-to-wear clothing, and textile sectors in Turkey made a new breakthrough with their graduates. Prof. Dr. Adanır stated that today’s youth stood out with their designs, and gave direction to fashion. She indicated that the companies preferred individuals who could design and express themselves through creative product resolutions, and she said that they aimed to train graduates that could build international fashion brands. Prof. Dr. Adanır, who mentioned that the students came in first place at the 5th Bridal Design Competition organized as part of If Wedding Fashion Show, and at the design competitions held by Aegean Exporters Association and Denizli Exporters Association this year, stated the following:
“Our students come back with many awards from the competitions organized by the private sector. We are training individuals who can find appropriate branding strategies for their designs, create their own brands, and give direction to fashion. Our department is known for constantly renewing itself since its establishment in 2001. We follow the trends and developments in fashion and textile sector up close. With the help of our international, multi cultured teaching staff, we are training new generation of designers who have a voice not only in our country but worldwide. We intend to become trendsetters in fashion.”
‘Not looking for professionals, looking for creative youth’
Prof. Adanır also stated that they would be admitting 40 students this year. 4 students would have full, another 4 would have 50%, and 16 students would have 25% scholarships. She said, “Students getting ready for the test need not worry. We don’t seek professionalism. We will try to identify students who are skilled and can improve these skills, and admit them to the Department of Fashion and Textile Design. We will train the future stars of fashion for the sector.”
