MODERN GAZEBOS FROM IUE ARCHITECTS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Architecture built modern gazebos. At the “Digital Fabrication” titled workshop where American Architects Raffi Tomassian and Nicholas Germann from Miami University attended, the lecturers and students of (IUE) Department of Architecture designed gazebos accommodating at least two people. A modern design approach was used in the project where IUE Lecturers Michael Young, Özlem Akın, Füsun Babaoğlu, Dr. Altuğ Kasalı, and research assistants Ece Küreli and Ece Uyar Aktaş participated.
Michael Young, who gave information about the workshop, stated that the students learnt how to use parametric design and modelling tools. Young said, “The students were asked to design and construct a gazebo that can accommodate two people at least. Students created their designs via drawing sketches, modelling, analysis through digital parametric modelling, detailing in exact scaling.”
Young indicated that the purpose was to get students involved in each step of design and production processes so that the future architects would comprehend project management better.
