SILVER MEDAL FOR IUE CHEFS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management ranked in second place at Student Chefs Competition organized by Izmir Association of Chefs at Food Expo Fair.
Third grade students Cemre Gemici, Bükre Aslan, and Sabitcan Kalfa, competed in three categories including starters, main course, and dessert, and won a silver medal. Students, who were led by IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management Chefs Martin Meakens, Melika Konday ve Selcen Merve Dabağ, prepared vegetable tower as a starter, and for main course they served salmon wrapped in dough and risotto with fig and vanilla.
One of the student chefs Sabitcan Kalfa stated that they achieved success as a result of blending academic knowledge and application. “We are being offered a distinctive education here at Izmir University of Economics Department of Culinary Arts and Management. It is very important to recognize and process the ingredients in our profession. We are looking to the future with our past culture, awareness of our flavours. Such competitions allow us to test ourselves and to take firmer steps,” said Kalfa.
