PRICES WILL GO UP
It has been stated that nowadays, where margin of natural gas in electricity production exceeded 50%’s, electricity and natural gas prices will see fluctuations with price rise decisions as the winter has just started. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Biresselioğlu, Head of IUE Department of Sustainable Energy, who commented on the “Electricity and Natural Gas Prices” statistics for the first period announced by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), pointed that they expected a rise in electricity and natural gas prices.
According to TUIK data, in the first period of 2014, household consumers paid on average 35.4 kurus per kWh electricity. He reminded that the figures were same as last year’s second period. “Primary source of energy for our country’s electricity production is natural gas. It should be considered that our country has 98% foreign dependency on natural gas. The statistics revealed that household consumers paid on average 104.2 kurus per m3 natural gas whereas industrial consumers paid on average 89.5 kurus per m3 natural gas in the first period. This all indicates to price rise in electricity and natural gas prices with the fact that margin of natural gas in electricity production exceeded 50%’s,” stated Biresselioğlu.
