THE MEMORY OF THE FUTURE AT ISTANBUL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, attended the “Gelecek Artık Eskisi Gibi Değil (The Future Is Not What It Used To Be)” themed 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial Academic Program, which was organized by Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation (IKSV), with their digital exhibition project titled #flashblackbox”.
It was stated that the exhibition will be open for visitors at Antrepo No.7 Karaköy until December 14, and that the dark room with white outer and black inner surfaces represented unlimited life span. The digital exhibition project, designed by Didem Kan Kılıç, Asst. Prof. Dr. Markus Wilsing and Research Assistant Selin Gülden from IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, focused on the following themes:
“#flashblackbox digital exhibition project is placed in a dark room which is built white on the outside and black on the inside. While white walls represent a memory not written and identified yet, black walls express eternity. And the black cube (#flashblackbox) in the middle of the room symbolizes the recreation of eternity.”
It was stated that the exhibition included a collection of memories, thoughts, and ideologies of 4th grade students. “The exhibition emphasizes key words such as memory, transformation, transition, eternity, foresight, futuristic. #flashblackbox tries to instil a comprehension and design of a prudent and futuristic environment. In that context, #flashblackbox represent memories reviewed suddenly and unexpectedly,” stated the project tutors.
