‘BRAND CITY IZMIR’
Students of Izmir University of Economics, Department of Visual Communication Design, designed Izmir. Students got a chance to design brand identity regarding different areas of the city at the ‘Expose Yourself to Life’ titled workshop supervised by Stefano Cardini, Course Leader of the Master in Visual Brand Design. 7 distinctive designs were presented to the audience at Izmir Chamber of Commerce where Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees also attended.
Students built sculptures from re-usable waste, and aimed to promote the city to tourists via a mobile application they developed based on food items being sold on the streets such as sunflower seeds, bagels, pastries in their projects. Another group, who featured wind surfing in Alaçatı and Urla, created an application called “Surf the Day”. President Ekrem Demirtaş, who observed each and every one of the projects, stated that they put emphasis on university-industry collaboration and that the students of Department of Visual Communication Design worked hard to make Izmir a brand city.
‘Industry-University Integration’
President Demirtaş said, “We’ve dreamed of Izmir University of Economics to be integrated with the business world when we established it. Children spend four, five years at universities. They graduate without a job guarantee. We believed it wouldn’t go on like that and put emphasis on university-industry collaboration.”
‘IUE Students Create Smart Projects’
President Demirtaş mentioned that students of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design developed many projects in various fields and graduated ready for the business world. “Students in all departments of the university are trained as a workforce ready for the business world. Izmir Chamber of Commerce and Izmir University of Economics will do more useful things with the support of the sector. We invest on human. Our children come up with very smart projects,” Demirtaş stated.
