IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS; MEMBER OF EUROPEAN ENERGY RESEARCH ALLIANCE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Sustainable Energy has been accepted to membership of European Energy Research Alliance – EERA in collaboration with TUBITAK. Izmir University of Economics will be working to establish collaboration with research institutions and industry at the alliance where Turkey was represented by only METU before.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Head of IUE Department of Sustainable Energy, stated that the University was also admitted to the administration of Joint Programme on the Economic, Environmental and Social Impacts of Energy Policies and Technologies at the executive meeting of the alliance that took place in Antwerp, Belgium.
Energy Alliance for Innovation
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Biresselioğlu told that the alliance had more than 150 research centers such as Oxford, Cambridge, Delft, Lund, and Bologna universities. He said, “The unity is a research alliance where universities are shareholders. EERA works together with European industrial platforms to align research and innovation priorities. This collaboration aims to foster world-class technology and innovation in Europe’s energy sector. The organizations in the alliance are funded through research funds.”
Biresselioğlu, who indicated that they aimed to enhance international collaborations through the alliance, said that the membership was very important in terms of Turkey being represented in the international arena. Biresselioğlu also said that the collaboration would offer a new network of communication for academicians and researchers.
