'Elegant Lines from 1920's to 1980's'
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Head of IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, talked about the exhibition and she said that they archived the international style modern period of Turkish furniture design dating back to 1920. Hasırcı said, “We especially wanted this era to come to light, an era underestimated in Turkey. We had difficulty in doing that. We analyzed piece by piece, the international style modern period of Turkish furniture design starting from 1920 and stretching out to the 1980’s in our project where Lecturer Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Tuna Ultav and Research Assistants Seran Borovalı and Hande Atmaca took part.”
‘History of Furniture Found Voice’
Hasırcı stated that they focused on functionality entirely in their studies rather than decorations. They were able to analyze 180 pieces of home and office furniture with plain, elegant lines. In addition to photographing the furniture and revealing their styles, they also held interviews with some of the manufacturers and designers they were able to reach to, said Hasırcı and indicated that the exhibition would be available through 24 February.
