CONVENIENT FURNITURE FOR SMALL SPACES
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Departments of Industrial Design, and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design represented the school at the 26th Izmir Furniture Fair MODEKO 2015 with furniture they designed for small spaces. The students are offering alternative furniture for small houses with their unique designs at the fair available through March 1. Nine out of 40 pieces of furniture designed by 80 students as part of Furniture Design course are being displayed at the fair. Students designed furniture based on the levels of income, such as folding end tables, study desks, living room sets for small spaces.
‘Unity Brings Design Variety’
Lecturer Ertan Demirkan, Project Coordinator of Furniture Design course, stated that students, from two different disciplines, designed unique and efficient furniture together which are being displayed at MODEKO 2015 fair. Demirkan also said that the furniture would be displayed at Agora Shopping Mall in March as well. “Students designed life cycle for singles, newly married couples, or single parents. They planned furniture for small spaces to allow getting around more comfortably and easily. They designed multi-functional study desks, relaxing chair, etc. We adapted furniture into the fast and changing living conditions. We care about students of two departments designing as a team. Different perspectives enrich the designs,” said Ertan Demirkan.
