NEW GENERATION OF FASHION DESIGNERS
High school students designed prom dresses. Gözde Musluoğlu, student from Büyük Çiğli Izmir Türk Private High School, came in first place with her design at the “2nd Fashion Design Contest among High School Students” organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. Muhammed Ali Yıldız, from Yunus Emre Anadolu High School came in second, and Melise Deniz Dungan from Izmir Kız Anadolu High School came in third place at the contest where 146 students from 67 high schools attended.
The winner, Musluoğlu has been awarded 3 gold coins, Yıldız 2, and Dungan has been awarded 1 gold coin at the “Design Your Dream Prom Dress!” titled fashion design contest, co-organized by IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design and Izmir Provincial Directorate for National Education.
‘We Encourage Their Creativity’
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that they aimed to find out about the interests of secondary education students in fashion and textile design, and reveal their creativity. Prof. Dr. Adanır, who indicated that there was such a high interest in the contest, said, “We want to encourage their original thoughts and work that matches today’s design concept. We support their interest and creativity in fashion and textile design, and support their creativity. As the Department, we would like to help students make decisions before they choose their careers. We wanted them to challenge themselves in a fun way whether they want to work in this field or not. High school students reflected their fashion skills on the paper through their designs.”
