SMART SOLUTION IN LOGISTICS
Shipment to Europe will be solved by the “Loan Consolidation and Loading Planning Research Project” developed by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Logistics Management. The TUBITAK project, which was co-developed by Dr. Ahmet Camcı, Research Assistant Sinem Tokçaer under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Lecturer at IUE Department of Logistics Management, with EKOL Logistics Company, aims to develop cost efficient load combining systems.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci stated that the Project would be funded by TUBITAK for three years. He said, “We hope to find a solution for load consolidation and loading planning problem faced by companies in the business of overseas and long distance freight shipment. We plan to come up with fast, cost efficient load combining systems which benefit from scales of economy. Various sub problems will be established, and accurate solution methods based on mathematical modeling will be used together with heuristic methods.”
‘Customer Satisfaction Will Be Delivered’
Asst. Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci reminded that the project was developed in order to find solutions to problems faced by EKOL Logistics Company during its delivery of shipments to Europe. “During shipment to Europe from different parts of Turkey, we think about best way to load and route the shipment as we both try to make profit and delivers customer satisfaction. One of our graduates focused exactly on this subject, now doing a Ph.D. student writing his thesis on the subject. We met with Ekol Logistics. They were interested in the project. We dwell on both real life experiences and past data. We work on a system that will help cost decision, but it has to work fast in order to do that”, said Özpeynirci.
