She said, “Eating lots of food after a prolonged eating bring along some indigestion problems. And switching back to regular eating habits as the Ramadan is over might cause digestion problems”.
Tengiz indicated that sweets, candies, chocolates offered during bairam increased blood sugar quickly and caused problems in digestion system.
Healthy Eating Tips during Bairam
Tengiz said that not go overboard during visits and watch out the servings. She made the following recommendations:
“Adopting healthy and balanced eating habits is very essential in all ages. We should try not to give in to persistent dessert offers during Ramadan holiday visits, and avoid overeating as much as possible. If we can choose, we need to opt for milk desserts rather than pastries with heavy syrups. We should increase water intake during and after the holiday, and drink at least 1.5-2 liters of water every day. Ayran (yoghurt beverage) and fruit compotes should also be consumed. Eating good amount of veggies and fruits would be very beneficial in terms of preventing digestion problems such as constipation, etc. Fiber intake should be increased. And finally, children 0-12 should consume less sugar and sugary foods and brush their teeth after consuming such foods.”
