IUE SUPPORTS DOMESTIC PRODUCTION
Turkey’s first domestic 3 D printer is being displayed at the International Izmir Fair. It has been estimated that 3 D printers, which are thought to become widespread by 2020 with 35% annual growth capacity worldwide, will take part in all aspects of life. The 3 dimensional printer, “Bigg”, produced by Tesla Teknik-one of the first companies of Izmir Bilimpark (IUE techno park)-under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, IUE Vice Rector, will allow any size prints out by deducting half of the cost. Various designs such as folding electric bike, smart feeding cups for pets, blood pressure monitor created by students which are displayed at IUE booth at the fair, drew great attention of the guests.
Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, who stated that they developed the first ever 3 D printer in Turkey said, “All mechanical parts, electronic circuits, software is domestic production. This way, size limit, experienced in 3 D printers, is also eliminated. Users are able to get 3 D print out of objects ranging from 20 cm to 1 m. We will be developing 3 D printers printing in any size we want since we have the building technology. The plastic used is also recyclable. Therefore, the costs will be lower. Printers on the market now use only one color plastic. Dual color requires changing the cartridge. We will develop a printer that allows tricolor prints within 3 months.”
'Domestic 3 D for Dentists and Jewelers'
Tesla Teknik Manager Gökhan Şener indicated that printers on market were very loud and high cost, but the printers they developed on the other hand printed elaborate objects. Şener said that they focused on developing 3 D printers especially for dentists to use in the making of dentures, and jewelers to use in their elaborate designs. “Delta type printer allows fast production. It makes less noise and vibrations, and lowers the cost in half. Since it is a domestic production, our service network provides better services. User will also be able to sell their designs at BiggWeb platform. We’ve established a network for users through the network,” said Şener.
