Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that approximately 200 thousand fabrics from Sümerbank’s Izmir Halkapınar Facilities were taken under protection by the University. Prof. Dr. Adanır said, “Sümerbank’s Halkapınar Factory donated the fabrics to our school in 2006. They are being turned into a digital museum, and will be at service of interested parties. We decided to open an exhibition. We tried to collect pictures of clothing manufactured between 1950’s to 2000’s. We picked out fabrics that were similar to the ones in the pictures from our archives. We designed and sawn 12 outfits of that era with our team”.
Exhibition Will Include Home Textile Also
Prof. Dr. Adanır pointed that the exhibition which will take place at Adnan Saygun Art Center in November will not only display outfits of the era but other home products manufactured with Sümerbank’s fabrics as well.
