INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is standing out with its international students in its 15th year. IUE, which has agreements with 156 universities- 23 of which are from European Union countries-is hosting 80 Erasmus students this semester. Izmir University of Economics, a leading name in education with medium of instruction in English and with its smart classrooms, educated 537 foreign national students up until now.
IUE is hosting students from Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, France, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Belgium, Spain, Romania, and Slovenia at 2015-2016 academic year fall semester. Also, 4 exchange students from United States of America started studying at IUE.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that they sped up their steps in becoming a world university; they admitted foreign nationals students in different departments in 15 years and that with the completion of the health campus there would be increase in the number of students. He said that they established an education system that meets the dynamics of the changing global structure, and equipped the campus with smart classrooms. “We aim for training youth who will build, manage space cities. We asked our students which sector they would be seeking a job in when they graduated. While 50% said that they wanted to work in private sector, 16% said that they wanted to represent our country abroad. There is an endless competition worldwide and our students take the first rows in this competition with the education they receive. As our students represent our country abroad, each of our increasing number of foreign students becomes representatives of Izmir.”
‘Equalitarian and Liberal Education’
President Demirtaş stated that they imagined innovations all the time, and they prepared the youth of computer age for the future. He said that they became a choice of foreign national students with the academic freedom, international competency, and student focused education they provided. President Demirtaş stated the following:
“We are working hard to make sure our students think independently and take responsibility. Our principle is not to make any discrimination among our students based on religion, language, race, gender, personal beliefs, and political thoughts. Teaching two languages and teaching in English is the sole principle of our University to achieve our goal of becoming a world university.”
