‘HYGIENE PROTECTS FROM FLU’
As the weather begins to turn cold these days, catching seasonal diseases such as cold and flu increase rapidly. The experts stress the importance of hygiene in keeping these diseases away, and state that fighting germs and treating infectious diseases cost lots of money.
Prof. Dr. İlgi Şemin, Director of IUE Vocational School of Health Services, pointed that protecting from germs was more cost efficient than fighting against them, and washing hands frequently was an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. Prof. Dr. Şemin said, “We get sick because of coming in contact with infected blood or body fluids. Washing hands with soap keeps the germs away. Parents should frequently stress the importance of washing hands with soap and water to their children.”
‘Great Tips’
Prof. Dr. Şemin made the following recommendations to protect from cold and flu:
“We should develop a habit of washing hands immediately after entering the house. We should not rub our eyes with hands, and discard tissues we use immediately. If we don’t have a tissue, we should sneeze into our sleeves. We should try to stay away from sick people. Teachers should also emphasize the importance of hygiene at school. Keeping a sick child at home would prevent from spreading the disease to other children.”
