IUE WILL DESIGN FOR DENTUR BOATS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is bringing a breath of fresh air into Istanbul Bosporus marine transportation through design. Interior design of 14 double ended boats of DenturAvrasya will be carried out by IUE EKOTAM Design Research and Application Center. The project will come into service next year and next generation boats will carry passengers of the Bosporus.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Markus Wilsing, Asst. Prof. Dr. EmreErgül, andAsst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan, Lecturers of IUE Yacht Design Graduate Program, AlperenGören, grad student at Yacht Design Graduate Program, and MertKaraman, Undergrad student at IUE Industrial Design, will work on interior design, furniture, and brand design of the boats. Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan, Director of IUE EKOTAM gave information about the project and he said, “IUE Yacht Design Graduate Program lecturers and students have successfully taken part in interior design and furniture design of ferry boats of Izmir Metropolitan MunicipalityIZDENIZ Inc. and renewal of Kordonship. These projects allowed us to have significant experience especially on marine transportation. After that, design requests from Istanbul started to come in. We will beworking on interior design of 14 double ended boats, which will be put in service next year, and identity design for the company as well.”
‘User Centered Design’
Asst. Prof. Dr. Özcan reported that the boats, with high maneuverability skills thanks to 37 meter special boat form used for the first time worldwide, saved 54% on fuel and traveled 40% faster. He said that these new boats would travel between Usküdar – Beşiktaşin 4 minutes. Özcan said, “There will be a custom design platform to facilitate getting on and off the boat for passengers. Next generation boats will be equipped with user centered designs. Innovative designs on furniture, lighting, service area, etc. will be used.”
