THE WIND OF FASHION BLOWING TOWARDS 2016
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, are getting ready to create a fashion feast at Agora Shopping Mall. Works of young designers will be showcased on the runway in two parts at 18.00 and 20.00 respectively on Friday, December 25 at 2015 Fall Semester Fashion Show.
Sophomore, junior, and senior students of IUEDepartment of Fashion and Textile Design will be displaying costumes inspired by Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Recurring Time’ themed experimental outfits, “Iconic styles of music stars”, and ‘Pearl of the Aegean’ themed ready to wear collection.
Prof. Dr. Ender YazganBulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that each grade focused on a different theme. She said, “In the first part, senior students’ Experimental Couture designs as part of the design studio course led by Lecturer JörnFröhlich and Asst. Prof. Dr. ArzuVuruşkan, will be on the runway at 18.00. The seniors created ‘recurring time’ themed designs for Fall Semester Fashion Show. 59 designs created by 14 students will be showcased in this part.”
‘Alice Will Come To Life’
Prof. Dr. Bulgun said that designs of sophomore, junior, and senior students would be showcased in the second part at 20.00. She said that the students got inspired by Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ as part of the Costume Design Elective Course and they designed costumes for both Alice and another character they chose. Prof. Dr. Bulgun stated the following:
“16 costumes created by 8 students were led by JörnFröhlich.The “Iconic styles of music stars” prepared by junior students will also be in this part of the fashion show. The 3rd graders focused on male clothing. Each designer chose a famous male artist like Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, and created custom designs. The fashion show will end with 2nd graders’ “Pearl of the Aegean” themed ready to wear collection. The collection, led by lecturers ÖzgeDikkayaGöknur, SedaKuleli, and Angela Burns, includes 26 designs (one design per student).”
‘Organization and Models by Izmir Economics’
Prof. Dr. Bulgun reported that the fashion show itself was also organized by students who took the ‘Fashion Show Organization and Choreography” course by BaşakGürsoy, former model who founded the first modeling agency in Turkey. She said that the elective course welcomed students from a wide variety of disciplines. Students from Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Department of Business in addition to Department of Fashion and Textile Design would be organizing the fashion show. Also, the entire fashion models on the runway would be the students of Izmir University of Economics, said Prof. Dr. Bulgun.
