INNOVATION AWARD TO IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Turkey’s first domestic 3 D printer received the "IT 2015 Service Awards Innovative Projects" award given by Informatics Association of Turkey. The 3 dimensional printer, “Bigg”, produced by Tesla Teknik-one of the first companies of Izmir Bilimpark (IUE techno park)-under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, IUE Vice Rector, has been selected as an innovative project. Prof. Dr. AşkarandTelsaTeknikManagerGökhanŞener received the award given by SalihÖzçiftçi, Member of Executive Board of Informatics Association of Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar said that they produced thefirst domestic 3 D printer of Turkey which would allow any size prints out by deducting half of the cost. “Our 3D printer, with its electronic circuits, software, all mechanical parts domestically manufactured, received the IT 2015 Service Awards Innovative Project award. Our printer eliminated the size limit problem,” said Aşkar.
‘We Reduced Cost’
Prof. Dr. Aşkar said that theInformatics Association of Turkey, with a member profile from each class of society, was structured to convey the culture of science, and the award they received was a good proof of their innovation. Users are able to get 3 D print out of objects ranging from 20 cm to 1 m, saidProf. Dr. Aşkar. “We will be developing 3 D printers printing in any size we want since we have the building technology. The plastic used is also recyclable. Therefore, the costs will be lower”, said Aşkar.
‘We Will Work Vigorously’
Tesla TeknikManagerGökhanŞenerindicated that due to domestic manufacturing the service network provided better quality service. He said, “Being granted an ‘Innovative Projects’ award by Informatics Association of Turkey motivated us highly as one of the initial companies of Izmir Bilimpark. We will continue to work on innovative projects.”
