THE FUTURE LIES IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, shared his experiences with gifted children. President Demirtaş visited Konak Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi (Art and Science Center) which is serving 540 students at the building of Alsancak Meliha Özakat Elementary School. Demirtaş, who visited the students in their classrooms, advised students to chase their dreams.
President Demirtaşstated that today’s students were the scientists thatwould produce future science and technologies. He said, “Today, Turkey ranks 17th among the most developed 20 countries worldwide. Turkey will make it to the first 10 countries thanks to you. Science and technology is very important and you are the ones to produce science and technology for a bright future of our country.”
President Demirtaş also anwered questions of the students and he made the following recommendations regarding business life:
“Always dream. Dreaming is good. It takes you to a certain point. During my time as a student I wanted to get involved in politics. I improved myself. I started a merchandizing business. I became the Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Focus on what you want most. Maybe your goals will change in time but keep focusing on. The future lies in science and technology. Your duty will be to produce knowledge.”
Project Support by Demirtaş
President Demirtaş indicated that Izmir University of Economics was a world university that offered instruction in English and it had many students from all around the world. He also said that they wanted to offer education at all levels, from kindergarten to university, and they aimed to train students with above average IQin the private schools they’ve recently established. Demirtaş also promised to support the students who have projects at Konak Art and Science Center. He said, “We can also provide mentors for your projects.” Following his speech, the students presented Demirtaş a plaque. Mehmet Ali Atakan, General Manager of Ekonomi Private Schools (K-12) and Asst. Prof. Dr. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu, Director of IUE School of Foreign Languages, also accompanied Demirtaş during his visit.
