DISCOVER YOURSELF IN SEMESTER HOLIDAY
After receiving their report cards, students began their semester holiday which will last until 8 February. As students will relax and enjoy a 15-day holiday, the experts came up with suggestions for students to open the door to new worlds during the holiday.
Clinical Psychologist Merve Yavuz, Coordinator of IUE Psychological Development and Counseling Centre, pointed that students should tend towards activities and art that they might be interested in which would cause them to discover new things about themselves. Yavuz indicated that students should make the best out of this 15-day holiday. She said, “Students may choose to volunteer in civil society organizations or take part in social responsibility projects to their likes, and get an opportunity to learn new things, meet new people, and discover new interests.”
‘Knowing Yourself Beautifies Your Life’
Yavuz reported that semester holiday was a suitable period of time for students to spend time with family members and friends. Yavuz made the following recommendations:
“It is important for individuals to know what they like and dislike. Discovering who we are enlightens us when we are choosing our profession. Students may choose to use this time to try to discover and list professions they might be interested in. If there is a target it means you’ve already stared your journey. We can reach our destination with a target. Likewise, students can set a target and try to find an answer to the question ‘where do you see yourself in 10 years?’.”
Returning From a Holiday
Yavuz also said that students may choose to study a foreign language since not practicing it results in loss of knowledge, and visiting museums, exhibitions, art and science centers would also help broaden their horizon and general knowledge. Engaging in sports activities and discovering the world of books would also help students during this time, said Yavuz. She said that in order to ease the going back to school process, students need to organize their course lists. “Getting away from school environment may make you feel good about yourself at first, however, trying to adjust to school again may be a difficult period,” said Yavuz.
