DESIGNS FOR A COMFORTABLE HOLIDAY
Vacationists are finally getting the comfort they seek in the furniture designed by students of Izmir University of Economics for bungalows. Bungalow furniture, designed by students of IUE Department of Industrial Design, and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design for 8 different locations, is being displayed at MODEKO 2016 27th Izmir Furniture Fair. Students are offering alternative products with their unique designs for bungalows in Yedigöller (Seven Lakes), Likya Yolu (Lycian Way) and various sea sides at the fair that will end on February 28.
Ertan Demirkan, Lecturer at IUE Department of Industrial Design, stated that 80 students designed more than 40 pieces of furniture as part of the Furniture Design course. Demirkan said that students designed bedroom and living room furniture, storage area, table and chairs for bungalows. He said that students created comfortable and smart solutions in the course taken by students from two different disciplines. Demirkan indicated that the course, in which students create futuristic designs, was taught by Raul Pinto, Department of Industrial Design, and Stefano Pugliese and Cengiz Ultav, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. Demirkan also said that they got in touch with the sector representatives at the fair.
‘Power of Teamwork’
Demirkan said, “This year our students created different designs for those who enjoy spending their holiday in bungalows. They came up with unique designs for different locations including Seven Lakes and Lycian Way, and sea shores by even taking the weather conditions in Canada into consideration. They created multi-functional furniture for bedroom, living room, and dining room. We care about students of IUE Department of Industrial Design, and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design working as a team and creating wide variety of designs with different perspectives.”
