GOOD STRESS VERSUS BAD STRESS’
‘GOOD STRESS VERSUS BAD STRESS’
Stress is incredibly common but in the right dose it can be even healthy. Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Erdeniz, Lecturer, IUE Department of Psychology, stated that stress wasn’t an emotion but a physiological reaction. He said, “Short-term stress helps us survive but long-term stress makes us sick.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Dr. Erdeniz, who attended Aydın Guidance Research Centre In House Training Seminar at Aydın Yüksel Yalova High School of Fine Arts, pointed that stress became a part of a daily life. “Right amount of stress that does not disrupt individual’s daily routine and functioning can result in productivity and success. There is a specific gland right outside the brain which is responsible for releasing hormones. This gland releases hormones related to stress at the same time. If our stress level is about average, we become very productive. Our performance goes down when there is too much or too little stress,” said Erdeniz.
‘Hard or easy?’
Asst. Prof. Dr. Erdeniz stated that little stress in hard tasks and too much tress in easy tasks brought success, and in the long run stress caused cardiovascular diseases and addictions. Erdeniz said, “Mild level of alertness brings success. Therefore, little amount of stress is necessary. However, intense and prolonged stress has negative impact physiologically and psychologically. Stress is an unavoidable reality of daily life. Stress is any kind of change that requires us to adapt. So, right dose of stress is good.”
