RALLY TO SAVE LIVES!
RALLY TO SAVE LIVES!
This rally has been dedicated to saving lives. The future paramedics tested their occupational skills and knowledge at the “1st EKO – Uni Rally”’. Students of Paramedic Program of IUE Vocational School of Health Services tried to carry a bowl full of water on a stretcher without spilling it and balls without dropping them on the ground in a fast and steady pace. They dedicated themselves to attend to a patient in the fastest and most secure way. Students had both fun at the rally and learned how to save a patient’s life under harsh conditions.
Nursun Üstünkarlı, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, stated that they organized the rally in order to help students increase their occupational skills and experience. She said, “There are 9 teams. They competed in 9 stations in 2 race tracks. In the first race track we assessed their knowledge and skills on use of equipment. One of the team members acted as a patient. We asked the patient to be carried with equipment such as K.E.D. jacket, traction splint, and scoop stretcher quickly and carefully. In the second race track we assessed their knowledge and skills on practices on a dummy and how long it took. What’s important here is that the students keep calm and act quickly and carefully in a real life situation.”
‘Bigger rally next year’
Üstünkarlı stated that Lecturer Melahat Kızıl and Dr. Yıldırım Gezgin, in addition to herself, were the other jury members in the rally. She said that the team, “Yaşam ve Ötesi (Life and Beyond)”, comprised of students Enes Duran, Mert Neşeli, Yasemin Fıstıkçı, and Serap Dilek, became the winner of the rally. Üstünkarlı stated that they organized the rally for the first time this year where students had fun and got a chance to test their performances as well, and they planned on turning the rally into an interuniversity organization.
