IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS SHAPING THE FASHION
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is getting ready to welcome fashion designers who will shape the global fashion. IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design started pre-registrations to admit students through an aptitude test. The deadline for pre-registrations is August 8.
Prospective students will take the first steps towards the department, which ranked in first, second, and third place at the 10th If Wedding Fashion Bridal Design Competition and displays designs in various social events throughout the year by pre-registration. Nurdan Boğa, student also from the department, ranked in third place among 3 thousand 195 university students with her “Sen Fısılda Dünya Duysun” (You Whisper and the Whole World Will Hear) titled project. The first of the two-step exam will be conducted on August 9 at 09.30 – 13.00, and the second exam will be conducted at 14.00 – 17.30. Students, who will be assessed on their charcoal drawings, will find out the results on August 10. IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design will admit 31 students this year. 3 students will have full, another 8 will have 50%, and 10 students will have 25% scholarships.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, pointed out young fashion designers gave a new direction to ready-to-wear clothing and that they supported Turkey in the field of textile with their power of design. She reminded that students of the department achieved ranks in all competitions they entered. She said, “Turkey made a new breakthrough in fashion, ready-to-wear clothing, and textile industries with new generations. Our students come back with achievements form all national and international competitions. This very thing proves that they are on the right track in both design and creativity. Companies prefer individuals who can design and express themselves through creative product solutions.”
‘Carrying the talents into the future…’
Prof. Dr. Adanır stated that they aimed to train graduates who can build international fashion brands and she said they hoped to meet young talented students to help them use their skills for their future.
‘Youth Shaping the Fashion’
Prof. Dr. Adanır stated that they trained individuals who could find appropriate branding strategies for their designs and create their own brands. She said, “We are training youth who give direction to fashion. Our department is known for constantly renewing itself since its establishment in 2001. We follow the trends and developments in fashion and textile industry up close. With the help of our international, multi cultured teaching staff, we are training new generation of designers who have a voice not only in our country but worldwide. We intend to become trendsetters in fashion.”
