REFLECTION OF EMOTIONS WILL BE EXHIBITED IN LITHUANIA
Jovita Kurnaz, Lecturer, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, (IUE) will display the combination of felt with art in Lithuania. Zeynep Karaoğlu and Bengisu Ekin Özkan, both graduates of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, will accompany Kurnaz, who will be the only artist to be attending from Turkey.
Kurnaz will be representing Turkey at the 3rd Vilnius Craft and Design Fair among 60 participants. Artists and designers from Estonia, Latvia, Israel, Germany, Canada, Japan, Poland, and Lithuania will also be attending the 4 day long exhibition that will start on November 24.
Lecturer Jovita Kurnaz reported that she was also received an invitation from China following the fair in Lithuania. Kurnaz stated that she used felt to express human emotions. “I’ve portrayed people with extreme emotions when I was giving shape to the felt. It doesn’t matter whether the emotions are positive or negative. We can all experience extreme happiness, sorrow, joy, etc. When people experience extreme emotions their facial expressions start to change. When we reflect these changes on the same face, a totally different character emerges. I’ve brought human emotions together by using felt,” said Kurnaz.
‘4 emotions on 1 face’
Kurnaz said that she planted her cactus shaped felts, which reflect emotions, in pots, and she said that because extreme emotions hurt the person and others around him/her, she chose cactus to represent this hurt. “Each artwork represents minimum of four different emotions. I wanted to display what extreme emotions put us through. We need to have self-awareness initially. My artwork, in fact, is a mirror to our extreme reactions, emotional depths,” said Kurnaz.
