ERA OF EMPATHY IN TRANSPORTATION
2 thousand 730 personnel working at various units of ESHOT General Directorate, which serves the city of Izmir by transporting thousands of passengers every day, are learning to manage with stress and develop empathy. Drivers, working under a massive amount of stress, get a chance to improve their communication skills thanks to the training courses held by Izmir University of Economics Continuous Education Center. When the trainings are completed at the end of 2017, an era of empathy will begin in Izmir transportation.
One thousand 900 out of 2 thousand 730 personnel completed their training in accordance with the protocol signed with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT General Directorate. 830 more personnel will be receiving training until the end of 2017. ESHOT employees, who receive training on “Human Relations, Communication Skills, Stress Management, Empathy Development, and Anger Management”, will be able to get over daily difficulties easily.
Assoc. She said that they have been offering the training courses for 2 years regularly, and they will be completed by the end of 2017. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ertürk said, “Trainees are very interested in stress and anger management courses. They give examples on type of problems they face every day and discuss solutions with the help of their trainers. Our major goal is to contribute to the society in terms of continuous education. We see the positive feedback on trainings in our daily lives. ESHOT employees work under a massive amount of stress. They are in traffic every day for long hours transporting people. This training helps them get over the daily problems they face with more ease. Our main purpose is to provide relief for both the public of Izmir and the institution in the name of comfortable transportation.”
