WISHING FOR BETTER HEALTH…
IUE fashion designers designed dolls, felt trees and stockings, and toys in order to make children being treated at oncology ward feel hopeful about the New Year. The event, co-organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design and Faculty of Medicine, allowed children to have fun and get toys with get well wishes written on them. IUE students volunteered for this event that took place at IUE workshops and wished full and speedy recovery to children being treated at oncology ward.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, along with lecturers Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Corsini, Asst. Prof. Dr. Dilek Himam Er, Angela Burns, Jovita Sakalauskaite Kurnaz, and volunteering students, stated that they wanted to both entertain the hospitalized children and cheer them up. Prof. Dr. Adanır said they made New Year’s ornaments from felt. “We are a few days short of entering 2017. We wanted to make hand-made toys in the spirit of New Year with the hopes of joy, happiness, and health. These children are away from their homes and loved ones because of their treatment. We wanted to minimize that lonesomeness a bit. We wish them seedy recovery and happiness in the New Year,” said Adanır.
The hand-made toys were gifted to children at Oncology Ward at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital.
