DAYLIGHT INCREASES EFFICIENCY
Daylight bulbs make work life easier. Melis Örnekoğlu, graduate of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), studied the effects of color, intensity, and warmth of light on people at work in her research about interior lighting design. 63% of the people who participated in Örnekoğlu’s study stated that working in daylight increased efficiency, provided a comfortable environment, and that fluorescent lighting made eyes tired.
Örnekoğlu indicated that lighting design changed the entire perception of an interior and she said, “There is a great interaction between the time spent indoors and visual comfort and lighting systems. Natural, artificial lighting, intensity, color, and color warmth of lighting affect the efficiency of working”.
‘LED’s are not for homes but for stores’
Örnekoğlu pointed that their survey was based on the type of lighting used in workplaces, and 63% of the participants reported that working in daylight increased their efficiency. 50% of the participants reported that warm white light made them feel better and increased their level of concentration. Örnekoğlu stated the following:
“We’ve found out that LED light bulbs were not desirable in a work environment. LED is usually used for creating a positive effect on the ambiance of a location; it is an artificial lighting factor especially for highlighting products and increasing sales at stores. Physiological and psychological effects of light on human health are an undeniable fact. Daylight has a positive effect in a work environment. Lighting design affects the time spent in that location.”
