BE AN EXPLORER IN SEMESTER HOLIDAY!
Students, who completed the first semester of the academic year, will be on semester holiday until February 3. As the students will get a chance to rest and enjoy their 16-day holiday, the experts recommend students and parents creative ways to spend this period efficiently and pleasantly.
Ezgi Oral, Lecturer at Child Development Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics, recommended that parents prepare a holiday to-do-list together so that students don’t become slaves of technology during this period. Oral stated that students should head toward activities and art they are interested in, and that would help them discover their inner worlds. Oral made 10 recommendations for an efficient 16-day holiday.
Oral asked parents to list the activities their children might enjoy doing together. She said, “Go out and explore the city you live in. You will be surprised to find out there are many topics to talk about, discuss, observe. Do something together in the kitchen. Bake cookies, cakes, etc. together. Let your child experience and create. And then enjoy the stuff you created together. If there are natural parks in your city, go visit them. Talk about animals. Make museum trip plans. Go watch a theater play or a musical”.
‘Read Together’
Oral, who recommended parents to read books together with their children, stated the following:
“Go buy new books together. Then talk about the book with your child. Ask them to discuss the books they read. Play games together. Keep in mind that games are most important and favorite activities of children. Play their favorite games with them. Create opportunities for your child to spend time with friends. Set a specific time for homework. Remember that they are on holiday so keep that time short. Make time for activities they might enjoy and relax. Don’t forget that semester holiday is a great opportunity for parents to spend quality and pleasant time together.”
