FAST AND POWERFUL ELECTRIC CAR
Students of Izmir University of Economics will develop their own electric cars. IUE students, who participated in the electric car contest, held by TUBITAK, with their team titled “Ecowheel”, received total of 35 thousand TL support to build their car. The team, consisting of students of IUE Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, is developing their electric cars for the contests to be held on August 21 – 27, an event being held since 2005 with the purpose of contributing to technological development, creating awareness on alternative, clean energy sources, and bringing in vocational experience to students. The team of 25 people will be representing Izmir University of Economics at the "TUBITAK Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle" contest.
Students, participating in this project, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, IUE Vice Rector, and under the consultancy of Asst. Prof. Dr. Bülent Bilir, Lecturer, IUE Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, will attend the training course at Gebze TUBITAK TUSSIDE Institute on February 25 – 26. Asst. Prof. Dr. Bülent Bilir stated that today’s youth had keen interest in technology and he said, “Students from different disciplines come together. They will be working on design to electrical equipment of the vehicle. Their excitement will help all disciplines to progress. Students are being encouraged to produce the most efficient battery or hydrogen vehicle. They are being offered an environment where they can display their engineering skills. They will be representing Izmir University of Economics in such an environment in the best way possible.”
‘Fastest speed’
Selçuk Sarı, the Team Captain of Ecowheels, reported that they were receiving international standard education, that they were going to combine technology and knowledge together, develop the most efficient battery, and achieve the fastest speed possible.
