LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Seeds of entrepreneurship culture are being spread in the early ages in Izmir. High school students are getting ready for an “Innovation Journey” in accordance with the joint program co-developed by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Embryonix Technology Transfer Office and Özel İzmir Amerikan Koleji (ACI-American Collegiate Institute). Students, who received training on innovation and entrepreneurship, developed projects that were evaluated within the program called, “Innoaction Challenge”. A protocol was signed between Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Vice Rector of Izmir University of Economics, and Didem Erpulat, Principal of ACI, as a first step in order to utilize the students’ projects.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar stated that their aim was to allow students steer their ideas and projects in the right direction. Aşkar said, “We wanted to show students how they could put their original ideas into practice. We aim to share scientific, technology and experience. This way, students will be able to focus on business models that will put their projects to good use. They will be able to develop business models based on their projects”.
Prof. Dr. Aşkar mentioned that the students would receive entrepreneurship training first, and after that learn how they could put their original business ideas into practice through mentoring. Prof. Dr. Aşkar said that such studies would continue in the coming periods as well.
