LITTLE INVENTORS ON THE JOB
Kindergartners reach to information via experiments. Little inventors did experiments under the guidance of students of Child Development Program of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services and learned about scientific thinking, observation, understanding cause and effect relationship, problem solving, and doing analysis. Students of IZELMAN Selçuk Yaşar Balçova Kindergarten had lots of fun while they did dry ice, oobleck, color channels, and foam volcano experiments.
Songül Özgün, Lecturer, IUE Child Development Program of Vocational School of Health Services, reported that the best way of learning for kids was through games. “Our students Sude Köroğlu and Ece Asena Bulanık did number of experiments with the active participation of 24 students aged 5-6. They got a chance to observe evaporation, color change, transformation, etc. They also received information on space and planets during the experiments. They learned about states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) in addition to various visual and audial materials,” said Özgün.
‘Secrets of science’
Özgün reported that the experiments helped reveal the creativity of children through games, especially their sensory skills and scientific observation skills.
