SLEEP MONITORING DEVICE FOR CHILDREN
Children will get enough sleep. Nektar Ege Altıntoprak, student at Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed a “sleep device”, consisting of a smart alarm and an ankle band for children aged 8 – 12 in order to prevent bed-wetting.
Altıntoprak reported that she developed the band and alarm system called the “Moon” in order to allow children to get a good night’s sleep. She said, “Bed-wetting is a common issue among childhood. However, it can lead to psychological and social problems in children. Moon has been designed to help children aged 8-12 solve this minor problem and let them have a comfortable sleep. During the first week, the ankle band monitors the movements, the physical state, tightening of the muscles, and sweating of the child prior to bed-wetting. It collects data such as the sleeping phase, the time when the bed-wetting occurs, and some more”.
'Time to wake up'
Altıntoprak reported that the device gave out different signals such as smell, sound, vibration, and light unique to the child, and when the alarm was set, it would wake the child up in order to prevent bed-wetting.
