IUE INTERIOR ARCHITECTS’ JAPAN EXPERIENCE
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will bear witness to Japanese world of design. 8 Turkish students will get a chance to perform internship at Chiba University and study “culture” and “national identity” with Japanese students from interior architecture.
Students will take a trip to the city of Chiba and the surrounding architectural and art centers as part of the Exchange/Communication Program between IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Chiba University Department of Architecture. They will also get a chance to experience traditional and contemporary architectural work. IUE interior architects will be attending the architectural contest with their project they will develop at Chiba University.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Lecturer, IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, stated that they worked together with Prof. Kaname Yanagisawa, Head of Department of Architecture, Chiba University, on various projects since 2004, and that IUE students Hazal Erdoğan, Sinem Azak, Türkiz Karaköse, Damla Başkan, İlayda Şen, Özgünur Bora, and Fulya Özenç, performed their internship with the support of Japanese Government.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasırcı said, “We can see a significant improvement in language skills, world views and intellectual levels of students as a result of their internship experience. They get a chance to self-evaluate and learn about a new culture in every way, and observe the study environments, projects, and design approaches of students at Chiba University. And this year 8 students will get a chance to learn about Japanese design”.
'Staying in Japan after graduation'
Hasırcı also stated that students would stay with Japanese families and learn about their culture, and they would attend the architectural contest with their project they will be developing at Chiba University. She said, “Students will get an opportunity to perform internship at both Chiba University studios as well as at design and interior architecture offices at Tokyo. With this internship program, some of our students choose to go to Japan for their graduate studies and employment opportunities after this experience”.
