AN INTERNATIONAL PROSPECT ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW
The “Workshop on International Intellectual Property Law from the Perspective of Economic Growth and Welfare Sharing", conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Başak Bak, Lecturer, Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and funded by British Council, brought the international academia working in the field of intellectual property law together.
Collaboration with Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) was made as part of the project, which aims to contribute to the development of academic relation between Turkey and England, and to the economic growth and welfare sharing of the country. A platform was established which brought intellectual property specialists from various universities and ministries in Turkey along with Prof. Uma Suthersanen, Dr. Gaetao Dimita, Prof. Duncan Matthews, and Prof. Graham Dutfield from England. The project received 30 thousand British Pounds from the British Council.
Intellectual Property Law and the impacts of new Industrial Property Law in Turkey were discussed at the workshop where an observer from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also participated. The participants addressed how the platform, consisting of specialists on topics such as patents, brands, industrial design, copyrights, geographical signs, and traditional knowledge, would have an impact on economic growth and welfare sharing of Turkey.
