IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL HELP “RECONCILE!”
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will be providing training course on conciliation for 5 years with the approval of the Ministry of Justice. Graduates of departments of political sciences, economics and administrative sciences, business management, in addition to lawyers and people who received legal training, will benefit from the training course prepared within the framework specified by Alternative Solutions Department of Directorate General For Criminal Affairs, Ministry of Justice.
The first training course by IUE Continuous Education Center (IUECEC) will start on November 6, 2017 at Balçova Campus of Izmir University of Economics. The courses will take place on weekdays or weekends.
Prof. Dr. Can Şımga Muğan, Rector of Izmir University of Economics, reported that the training course aimed to improve the qualifications, knowledge level, and personal abilities of individuals that would be working as conciliators. The Rector stated that in addition to the lecturers of IUE Departments of Law, Psychology, and Faculty of Communication, trainers who are experts in their fields would also take part in the training courses. Prof. Dr. Muğan stated that the fact that Ministry of Justice authorizing Izmir University of Economics for 5-year long training courses was the mere indicator of the quality of education of IUE. “Participants will receive theoretical training on restorative justice approach, victim-offender mediation, and legal foundation of conciliation in criminal procedure, conciliation in an investigation or prosecution, communication skills, negotiation methods. In applied training, they will learn to improve their communication and negotiation techniques. They will study examples of dispute resolution scenarios,” said Prof. Dr. Can Şımga Muğan.
Prof. Dr. Muğan reported that the participants needed to take at least two legal courses in their studies in order to be able to participate in the training course, and stated that at the end of the training, they would be awarded certificates and qualify to take the “Conciliator Exam” conducted by the Ministry of Justice.
