NEW ROMANTICISM ON THE RUNWAY
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will be presenting their new designs to welcome 2018 at Agora Shopping Mall. Students’ designs will be presented in two parts at 18.00 and 20.00 respectively on Friday, December 22.
70 unique designs of 21 students will be showcased on the runway under the title of “New Romanticism”. Also among the designs to be displayed by IUE models are “Shirt Designs” of sophomore students and “Conceptual Deconstruction” of junior students. Lecturer Jörn Fröhlich’s, “PSA – Conceptual Couture Collection” titled collection of 14 pieces, will also be displayed that night as part of the show.
Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that students prepared for their senior project fall fashion show under the title of “New Romantic – Nightmares and Dreams”. Prof. Dr. Bulgun stated the following:
“4th year students prepared for the fashion show in design studio course under the guidance of lecturer Jörn Fröhlich. 2018-fashion is a combination of powerful romantic collections celebrating combination of styles from different cultures and different times. Everything is positive, colorful, and free. Fabrics and colors were matched by being compared to unlimited combinations. The fashion show was co-choreographed by Lecturers Başak Gürsoy and Jörn Fröhlich.”
‘Blood Red Shirts’
Prof. Dr. Bulgun reported that 3rd year students prepared for the fashion show on conceptual deconstruction in design studio course under the guidance of Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Kipöz. “Students focused on topics such as human-nature relationship, myth of beauty, luxury consumption criticism, and created their own designs. 2nd year students created shirt designs with textile fabrics on a red color palette coordinated by Lecturer Angela Burns, and under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Corsini. Catalogue shoots of the fashion show took place at the new building of Izmir Chamber of Commerce,” said Prof. Dr. Bulgun.
