PARAMEDICS OF IUE SAVE LIVES!
Students of Paramedic Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), created emergency scenarios and participated in a training drill on campus. The lifelike applications were appreciated by the audience. Paramedics, who play a significant role in emergencies before hospitalization, are getting ready to take part in emergency health services.
Nursun Üstünkarlı, Vice Director at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, said that the paramedics training started in Turkey in 1993 and they have been training paramedics at IUE since 2014. Stating that paramedics have the opportunity to work in 112 ambulances with the change in Emergency Health Services Regulation in 2004, Üstünkarlı underlined that their students want to draw attention to how they provide the patients with emergency care by showing examples of CPR, defibrillation, drug applications and response to injuries. Expressing that they carry on the trainings together with Lecturer Melahat Kızıl and Lecturer Dr. Yıldırım Gezgin, Üstünkarlı said “Training paramedics who have on-site response competence with the protocols set by the Ministry of Health increase the survival rate before transport. Transporting the patients to hospitals with vehicles equipped with medkits would certainly decrease permanent disability rating. Paramedics give first response emergency care to patients through practices requiring knowledge, experience and conscience.”
